Hedwig and the Angry Inch
From East Berlin to Milton Keynes.
Theatre company Sh*t Happens Productions present John Cameron Mitchell’s rockmusical,‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’ in City Limits at The Milton Keynes Xscape, on Saturday 7thMayto kick off their mini tour across the UK.
The show is an everyday tale of Gummi Bears, flying tomatoes, a botched penectomy and the Platonic notion that sex is the human effort to reconnect two halves of our original whole, Hedwig and the Angry Inch tells the story of fourth-wall smashing East German rock 'n' roll goddess, Hedwig Schmidt. The outrageous and unexpectedly hilarious story is dazzlingly performed by Hedwig in the form of a rock gig/stand-up comedy routine, backed by hard-rocking band “The Angry Inch”. Focusing upon Hedwig’s lifelong search for the “origin of love” and her other half, the story’s explosive finale explores the nature of identity in a superficial celebrity obsessed modern society - finally asking if, in today’s world, there is any room for love and acceptance. It's a roller-coaster ride - funny, touching, emotionally draining and ultimately inspiring to anyone who feels life has given them an inch when they deserved a mile.
A brutally honest musical theatre experience to startle your soul.
The show stars Milton Keynes Teacher, 6 foot 6 Dan Phillips in the stiletto heel wearing lead as well as taking on the role of Artistic Director for the production. Alongside Dan is Stacey Hatton playing his downtrodden eastern European husband and a band of non-English speaking rockers lead by Musical Director Christina Homer.
