Save The Children - Haiti Appeal
Chile Appeal
Hundreds of people have been killed and over 2 million more have been affected
by a powerful earthquake of 8.8 magnitude which struck central Chile on Saturday
morning. The earthquake struck at 0634 GMT, 115km north-east of the city of Concepcion
and 325km south-west of the capital Santiago. It is the biggest to hit Chile in
50 years. A Tsunami set off by the quake has triggered warnings in Pacific countries
from Japan to New Zealand.
Children are always the worst affected in an emergency. Matt Wingate, Head of
Save the Children's emergency response in Chile said "Children's lives will have
been turned upside down. They may be injured themselves, or will have to deal
with the trauma of what they've been through." Save the Children is mobilising
funds and emergency experts to support our partners on the ground. What is needed
right now is your help to ensure children are safe and their basic needs are met
