BASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor Course
Course Aim
The British Association of Snowsports Instructor (BASI) Level 1 Snowboard Instructor course is designed to train and qualify responsible snowboarders to instruct on artificial surfaces.
Course Description
BASI Level 1 Instructor course will consist of five days practical snowboarding activity supplemented with a supporting programme of lectures, seminars and tutor-led discussion.
The content of the course includes:
ˆ     Snowboard technique
ˆ     Snowboard learning progression
ˆ     Lesson planning
ˆ     Lesson delivery
ˆ     Class management and safety
ˆ     Snowboard equipment
ˆ     Customer care
The BASI Level 1 Instructor course does not permit the holder to instruct or lead snowboarders on snow (except indoor snow facilities). However, the qualification will lead directly towards the BASI Level 2 Instructor course [formerly known as BASI III/BASI Instructor]
Course Entry Requirements
Before attending the BASI Level 1 Instructor course the candidate must:
ˆ     Be at least 18 years of age
ˆ     Be able to perform smooth link turns on an artificial surface, with good stance and balance.  -It is strongly recommended that course candidates attend at least one orientation day prior to the course (details of which follow)
ˆ     Be an associate member of BASI. -Students will become associate members on application to the course
ˆ     Hold a first aid certificate and attend the SportsCoach UK or BASI child protection (CP) module.  -If a students does not possess a first aid certificate before attending the course, their qualification will be withheld by BASI until a valid certificate is produced. Like wise proof of attending the CP module and 35 ski school shadowing hours will be required before certification of the Level 1 can be issued.
Price
The cost of the 5 day BASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor course is £395 per person. This includes course and tuition fees, 35 hours shadowing experience at SNO!zone and BASI Associate membership for the current year.

On successful completion of the five day course candidates will be issued with a course feedback report and, if successful, a BASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor qualification. Please be aware that successful candidates must hold a valid first aid certificate and attendance to either the BASI Child Protection course or the SportsCoach UK equivalent to be issued with the license to teach. (First Aid courses are available at SNO!zone, please see page 3).

A 3 hour coaching session with one of our qualified instructors, exclusively for people enlisted on the BASI Level 1 Snowboard Instructor course. It is an ideal opportunity to check whether you are at the required standard for the course, and to help meet and exceed that standard. It will also give you a further insight into the course structure. It is strongly recommended to attend at least one orientation day session before attending the instructor course.
There will be a number of orientation days leading up to the course, giving ample time for those needing that little bit of extra practice!

NUCO 2 Day First Aid Course                  
This is a Health and Safety Executive approved two-day first aid course that complies with the HSE (First Aid) Regulations of 1981 - First Aid coverage in the workplace is a legal requirement. The qualification is sufficient for BASI Level 1 ski and snowboard instructors.
Course Description
The first aid training takes place in a 2 day training and assessment course (non-residential). The course contains practical activity, supplemented with a support programme of lectures, seminars and tutor led discussion. 
The content of the course includes:
¨      Aims and Principles of first aid
¨      Action at an emergency
¨      Basic Life support
¨      Management of the unconscious casualty
¨      Assessment and treatment of a casualty who is wounded, bleeding or shocked
¨      Assessment and treatment of fractures, dislocations and soft tissue injuries
¨      Assessment and treatment of burns
¨      Assessment and treatment of injuries and conditions sustained in outdoor environments  
Upon successful completion of the course and final assessment, the delegate will receive the HSE approved, nationally recognised First Aid at Work Certificate, valid for three years. This certificate would enable the holder to act as a First Aider in the workplace under the 1981 (First Aid) Regulations.
