O’Neill

We spend more time on a board than doing anything else so we applied for a job
at O'Neill.
We understand the drive to progress. The hunger to be better. The need to erase
that thin line between what can and can't be done. The moment you exceed yourself.
We live, experience and develop.
We have a common bond.
We are boarders.
Spring/Summer Collaborative Line

O’Neill is delighted to welcome British designer Luella Bartley aboard for an
exclusive collaboration that is set
to launch with a signature line comprising some 30 styles as part of the wider
spring summer collection in
2008. Voted Designer of the Year by both Elle and Glamour Magazine in 2006, and
with one Designer of the
Year nomination at the British Fashion Awards already in the bag, Luella has
undoubtedly cemented her
reputation as one of the leading forces in the world of fashion design.
The British designer’s love for surfing and the surf lifestyle played a big part
in making the partnership with
O’Neill such an attractive proposition. Reflecting on the partnership, Luella
said:
“With surf being a big part of
my personal life, I have always had a special interest in the history of surf
and skate culture and the style that is
inspired by it. So when O'Neill, a brand with so much heritage and integrity
within the sport, approached me
about a possible collaboration, I was immediately won over.”

Speaking about the influences for her signature line of clothing, Luella added:
“For me, it was really important
that this collaboration retain that sense of integrity. As a novice surfer myself,
I wanted to get across a different
side of the female surf look and the image of girls who surf. I took the t-shirt
and jean styling of the Z-boys'
Peggy Oki, her tomboyish style and urban look and the general look of the time
– the sun-bleached Venice
beach surfers and skaters and built on that reference. I wanted something that
looked harder and more iconic
than current surf-wear for girls and I also brought it up to date with fashion's
current trend for bright colors,
strong, clean graphics – part urban graffiti, part rave, part 70's surf hippie.”
Luella’s extensive signature line is the result of outstandingly original pieces
created for each and every modern
surfing girl out there: t-shirt dresses, sweatshirts, brightly colored jeans
as well as the standard bikini and
boardies combo. As someone who spends her fair share of time catching waves off
the coast of Cornwall,
Luella was determined to deliver a practical and functional element in her collection
with one-pieces for added
security in the water, as well as sweatshirts and pull-on boots for post surf
comfort. As Luella says herself:
“This
collection is more than just fashion – it’s been designed for girls that can
hold their own in the line-up, which is
exactly what you’d expect from an O’Neill girl.”
Eppo van Berckelaer, O’Neill Marketing Director, is eagerly looking forward to
the seeing how consumers will
respond to the new line of clothing and accessories, adding:
“The Luella Bartley for O’Neill collection represents
a fantastic way for O’Neill to deliver something extra-special to our consumers,
and Luella’s trademark
fashion edge and easy-going sense of style made this collaboration such a natural
fit.”
